Moving Day and the heatwave.

This post is a little late, but I think I am finally out of my panic induced days long freeze. More on that later.
Last Saturday we packed up the moving truck with the help of our lovely church family. The truck was loaded in under an hour! Pat left with the moving truck and it was around this time I realized my minivan keys were gone. We must have searched high and low for an hour. I called Pat crying because I just had no idea what to do.
We ended up piling all the kids into my mom's car and left the van at my moms house until the keys showed up. We thought maybe they ended up in one of the last boxes we packed of everyday use items.
This was not the case.
Pat and his best friend unloaded the truck in record time! However because the bedrooms are still under construction all of the boxes had to be stored in the front two rooms and the kids also had to sleep there. The house was a hot mess!
We actually joked about making forts out of the moving boxes for the kids.
My mom and I unpacked all of my kitchen stuff and got our everyday essential items put away.
The next day we woke up and realized that all of our clothes were in the van 45 minutes away.
It was not a pretty picture, people.
Of course the weather in California, being what it is, decided the middle of April would be a good time to go 90+. I mean, what are the odds?
The house was unbearably hot without the HVAC done, but Pat reassured me that he could get it done by the end of the week.
We went back to my mom's house Sunday night to unload the van and get all of our clothes.
I got out of the car and told Pat I was going to take a lap around the house to look for the keys. I was convinced I wouldn't find them because I had searched for so long the day before. My mom followed me out to the backyard and we started chatting next to the side yard. I glanced down and lo and behold, my van keys were tucked into a folded up pack n play bassinet. If I hadn't stopped where I did or didn't look down at exactly that spot I never would have found those keys. And let me just reiterate, this was within 5 minutes of pulling up to my moms house.
It was pretty miraculous.
The next few days were overwhelming and incredibly hard for me. This meme sums it up.
There were so many boxes with no where to go that I just completely froze. The house was unbearably hot in the afternoons. Because the ceilings aren't in, we had no insulation from the hot sun beating down on the roof. It was so hot for a few days that I just ended up leaving the house in the afternoons until the sun went down. It was unbearable! Not much work got done for the first few days of living here.
Pat actually organized the two front rooms better so they are liveable and not so overwhelming. I'm so grateful for him. It broke my freeze so that I can get into a good routine with the kids and start being more productive.
I've been working on the front yard landscaping the past few days.
There were so many dropped leaves and the neighbors ivy was so overgrown that I had no idea there was even a brick border! I found a few more rose bushes underneath it all as well. Surprise rose thorns are the worst!
We are eventually going to tear out the stump and the rose bushes and extend the driveway a few feet so that it is a straight shot to the RV access parking. It will allow us to park all three of our vehicles in the driveway as well because there are so many cars parked on our street! We have neighbors cars parked on both sides of our driveway. It's not great.
Pat has been working on sealing up the roof around the HVAC unit and outside walls because we have a storm coming this weekend. He has also almost finished the ducting for the AC and will probably be able to run it by next week. Yay!
We are settling in and creating new routines and figuring out our new normal. I can't wait until more businesses open up so that I can get the kids out of the house more. I'm sure that is a common dream.
More to come soon on the master bedroom!
